“It was the experience of a lifetime and I am so privledged to have gotten this opportunity.”
Lexy Jochim graduated with a degree in Sports Journalism in 2005 and returned yesterday from Xfinity’s Sports Social Media Star contest in Phoenix. Jochim, along with hundreds of other candidates, campaigned on social media sites Twitter and Facebook to gain votes and she was told last week that her hard work had paid off — she was chosen for the top 5. Jochim told us,
“It was a whirlwind weekend. I got to go behind the scenes of the White Sox Training Facility in Glendale, AZ as a chance to win a sports social media job through Xfinity. I followed a MLB Networks show — 30 Clubs in 30 days being hosted by 2 time A.L. League Allstar, Harold Reynolds.”
Jochim conducted interviews with Chris Sale, Matt Thornton and White Sox Manger, Robin Ventura. She also rubbed elbows with sports journalist Ken Rosenthal, who gave Jochim a quick interview on social media and sports reporting.
“The highlight of the experience was my interview with Ken Rosenthal. He is a legend in the sports media industry. I can’t put into words how valuable it was to get advice from Ken.”
Jochim participated in events with four other contestants from around the country. The official winner announcement will be made March 25th.
