A portfolio of five Knoxville News Sentinel columns has earned Dr. Mark D. Harmon a 2013 Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalists. The distinguished award was based on Harmon’s general column writing for a publication with a circulation under 100,000.
“I think column writing can be a bridge between the research and evidence required of good academia but also the popular writing of good journalists,” said Harmon.
Judges chose the winners from 1,800 entries in categories covering print, radio, television and online. The awards recognize outstanding work published or broadcast in 2013.
Sigma Delta Chi award winners will be honored at an awards banquet on June 20 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
