Journalism Class Takes a Bite Out of the Big Apple

Dr. Swan and a group of journalism students had the opportunity to travel to New York City this fall from October 14-17 to go behind the scenes and tour the Today Show, Good Morning America, NBC, Fox News, ABC News and The Daily Show just to name a few. These special tours also provided the students with a chance to listen and speak to producers and reporters of these well known shows.

On the Today Show set, where the group picture above was taken, the students met a School of Journalism and Electronic Media alumus, Brooke Fraser, who works as a research assistant for the show. The tour of Fox News Channel was given by David Winstrom, Director of News Edge, and included Fox News Anchors Jon Scott and Heather Nauert, Producer Trina Thompson, Writing Coach Shelley Stevens, and Senior Producer of News Edge Mykel MacCarthy, as speakers for the class.

A similar tour of CBS Television Network was given by Kate Zuckerman including a seminar. The students on the trip were given the opportunity to attend each taping sessions for the Late Show with Seth Myers, the Late Show with David Letterman, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. While in NYC, the students took some free time to tour the city, which included attending a Broadway show and sightseeing all over the Big Apple.
