Landgrant Films’ latest documentary will screen at the Knoxville Film Festival. Reaching Recovery: Pregnancy and Addiction in East Tennessee examines children born drug-dependent in East Tennessee. The half-hour documentary was produced by JEM Assistant Professor Nick Geidner and crewed by 10 journalism students.

“I am proud of our student’s and the work they have done,” Geidner said, “And we are excited to share this issue with the community.”

The Knoxville Film Festival runs from August 26 to 28 at Regal Downtown West Cinema. Reaching Recovery will screen on the first day of the festival at 12:30 p.m. Friday, August 26. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Knoxville Film Festival’s website.

The documentary originally premiered on WBIR-TV in March 2016 to an average audience of 34,700 households and has been viewed more than 2,000 times across WBIR.com and LandgrantFilms.org.

Landgrant Films provides JEM students with real-world experience in documentary filmmaking by telling stories of local non-profit organizations.

Last year, the Knoxville Film Festival screened Landgrant’s Teach a Man to Fish, which won audience favorite for short documentary. This summer, Geidner and eight students are working on a documentary on refugee families who have resettled in Knoxville.
