Gene Wojciechowski

Gene Wojciechowski spent twenty-five-plus years at ESPN, where he was an award-winning columnist and reporter for ESPN The Magazine, ESPN.com, and ESPN TV. Wojciechowski is a 1979 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he earned a bachelor of science degree from the College of Communications as a journalism major. He spent the next nineteen years as a sports reporter for such newspapers as The Denver Post, Dallas Morning News, Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune before joining ESPN in 1998.
He was a senior writer on an ESPN The Magazine staff that won the National Magazine Award in 2003. Wojciechowski later became the senior national columnist of ESPN.com, and transitioned to an on-air reporter position in 2012. He has won multiple Sports Emmys and Edward R. Murrow Awards for his work on ESPN’s College GameDay, SportsCenter, and E:60. He also was a contributor to ESPN’s coverage of the Masters and PGA Championship.
Wojciechowski joined the UT faculty in August 2024. He is married to Cheryl Coffey.
