Recent JEM grads receive Emmys for their work in news, sports reporting
JEM is excited to congratulate Annie Carr and Dallas Abel on their Emmy wins!
Annie Carr’s work on WBIR newscasts covering the Sevier County wildfire won her a Regional Emmy Award (Midsouth) for top evening newscast. Annie currently produces special projects and the 6 p.m. newscast at WBIR. This is Annie’s second nomination and first win. Annie started working at WBIR when she was still a student. She was also involved in a number of organizations at UT including: TVC, the Medal of Honor Project and UT Today.

Grad Shines as Producer of NBC Nightly News
Brooke Fraser is a 2012 graduate of the University of Tennessee’s School of Journalism and Electronic Media. She is also a producer of the NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. Fraser started as a page at NBC in Rockefeller Plaza in New York City and she has since found her way from there to working at the Today Show for two years to now being an integral part of the highest rated nightly news program in America. Anne Holt of WKRN Nashville to be inducted to Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame
Three-time Emmy Award winning journalist and 1973 CCI graduate Anne Holt will be inducted into the Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame on April 26th at Middle Tennessee State University. Holt has been an anchor at WKRN Channel 2, Nashville since 1976 and has won numerous awards including a George Foster Peabody Award for the investigative documentary “Under the Influence” and the Donald G. Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Tennessee College of Communication and Information.

Ben Bates accepted with three papers to International Association for Media and Communication Research
Professor Ben Bates is accepted with the following three authored or co-authored papers for the International Association for Media and Communication Research conference, Dublin, Ireland, June 2013:
“The Evolution of Cable Industry and Regulation’s Impacts: A comparative analysis of China and United States.” Co-authored with Yixi Zhu a doctoral student in media economics at Southeast University, Nanjing, China, studying at UTK as a visiting scholar supported by the China Scholarship Council.
“Using Conjoint Analysis to Identify Audience News Values.” Co-authored with Professor Mark Harmon.
“The Political Economy of Governance: Implications of Proposed Broadcasting & Internet Governance Treaties.”
